  • Revolutionary Road and The Book/Movie Debate

    By Miss N

I'm getting so excited for the release of Revolutionary Road that I may throw up. Seriously, I read the book a few years ago, fell in love with it and promised my best friend that we'd write the screenplay for the movie together. Of course, Hollywood got to it before we did, but I'm still excited to see someone else's interpretation of Richard Yates' story of suburban disdain. Oh yeah, and Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio are reunited onscreen, too. For every girl who obsessed over Titanic in the '90s, your day has come.

I'm a little worried that the movie won't be able to live up to the book, but it's gotten enough Golden Globe nods so far (one for Kate, one for Leo, best motion picture - drama and one for director Sam Mendes) to reassure me that everything will be fine and that the adaptation will be faithful. Consider my fingers crossed.

Is the movie ever better than the book? Does Revolutionary Road (or any movie, for that matter) stand a chance against the original?
