  • The Office - UK vs. US

Do you prefer the UK or the US version of The Office?

Popular points of contention I've heard in favor of the UK:
If you don't think the original is funnier, you just don't get British humor.
    It's all about the nuance.
The US version has gone on too long. It was only meant to last one season.

    In favor of the US:
The UK version is boring/I can't understand their accents.
I feel more sympathetic toward Michael Scott than David Brent.
    John Krasinski is hot/JAM 4EVA <3<3<3

Who wins? Why? Support your evidence with hilarious quotes/YouTube clips.

I have not seen either of them,   I am from United Kingdom as well.

I've seen both, understand both, but there's something about the chemistry of the people on the US version, it just works.

British humour is "dryer" than American humour. Americans go laughing crazy when they hear a fart. I can appreciate both, but the U.K. is slightly different from America.

P.S. British men are sexy. I love Morrissey

well, i'm not a fan of The Office, but i prefer shows like Skins and Doctor who, opposed to Gossip Girl and [insert an American sci-fi show that hasn't gotten the AX this season]

I haven't seen the British version but there are three indispensable characters on the U.S. version that I'm curious at to whether the British counterpart can match. You have the comical genius of Steve Carrell who plays Michael Scott. Rainn Wilson's ability to "sell it" as Dwight Shrute. And the adorable, lovable expressions of Pam Beesly as played by Jenna Fischer.

    ruh dut dut dut dut...

    it's starting to get old,

    "but that's what she said."

I haven't seen The Office UK but I am a huge fan of The Office US.

Here are a few of my favorite scenes from The Office US

    1) The episode where the Dunder Mifflin branches are competing to lose
weight and Kelly tells the camera that she bought a worm from Creed and
he confirms with that camera that it really is not a worm (then later
in the meeting, she explodes about how she's cranky and such because
she's trying to lose weight, and how she puts herself in risk with the
    worm)

    2) Dwight does stuff to Ryan to initiate him as the newest
salesman. Especially the part when Ryan plants the seeds and Dwight
says something like "You have planted the seeds, as I have planted my
seeds in you" and Ryan's expression is hilarious.

    3) Michael is
trying to use the restroom but he falls off the toilet and calls for
help. After denying Toby's help and Toby's refusal to call Pam (to help
Michael), Michael ask for Ryan but Toby says he's dead. Then when Toby
tells Michael to just get up since he just burnt his foot, Michael
attempts to get up but falls back down and a splash is heard.

    4)
The scene after, Michael gets out of the restroom to confront why the
office is discriminating him because he's "handicapped" and points out
    Ryan, who should be dead.

    5) 3 people dresses up as the Joker
and Dwight attempts the disappearing-pencil act but the elevator doors
closes and he opens it again to finish the line.

    6) Andy is in his sumo-suit at the beach and he falls into the water and he just floats away.

These are all the ones I could think of right now

the humour is completely different, so depending on where you're from, you're more likely to support one or the other

  • girlwithacoin@xanga

All I have to say is, Steve Carell.

  • Fio92@xanga

i love both! i can never get enough of British humor.

  • Dreamer33@xanga

I'm sorry. I love Extras but Ricky Gervais's original version of The Office is not as funny as the US version. I think it's because the American Michael Scott is more appealing.
