Miss IThis may seem awful, but sometimes when I listen to Kanye's new album, I want to get the girl who broke his heart a basket of poisoned muffins.
Kanye West has always been a tremendous artist, but I think
808s & Heartbreak is his best work yet. It's too bad that he had to have his heart squelched to get to that level of creativity!
Another artist who I see in a whole new light is Pink. "So What?" and "Sober" are probably my two favorite songs of the season. "Sober" is hauntingly powerful and yet so beautiful. All Pink had to do was go through a nasty divorce to write it.
I feel a tinge of guilt when I listen to this music, because it seems like we're all profiting from someone's very personal heartbreak. Sure, the artists choose to broadcast their feelings to the world (see Taylor Swift's break-up song about Mr. Jonas), but can't artists be happy and produce good stuff at the same time?
In general, do you find a certain amount of creativity and strength comes from tremendous anguish? Which star would you give a basket of muffins to? (My pick is Jennifer Aniston).

Pain is an enormous feeling, and I think that yes, more creativity comes out of it... Happiness is just as huge, but when you're truly happy, you're more relaxed, not as ready to fight the world and so on. After a heartbreak, those feelings come out...
jennifer aniston for sure!
as well as Owen Wilson and Jennifer Hudson
If you listen to Kelly Clarkson's songs, then you'd know how creative and talented she is when it comes to writing and singing about heartbreak. <3
And yeah, I'd probably give a whole tub of ice cream to Jennifer Aniston.
Pain inspires creativity.
I personally disagree with the Kanye thing.... he can't sing without the machines and it makes me cringe.
But P!nk, oh man, that was one wonderful album and was drenched in emotion.
And yes, anguish brings on a lot of creativity. I always used to say that I wrote my best after traumatic situations and depression.
I think that lots of stars are only pretending to be sad and stuff... They don't actually mean the things they say in albums and are only doing it for the fame, but whatever.
But sure, to quote Chuck Palahniuk: "Art never comes from happiness."
kayne west is a douche bag. He is full of himself.
I absolutely adore 808's and Heartbreak.
@Pcgecko85@xanga - that's what I like about him. Who's he supposed to be full of? You?
I understand what he's going through, i think everyone experiences heartbreak at one point or another to an extent. It sucks that all this happened with his mother gone (RIP). I do love the lyrics and the point he was trying to make. I'm just not a fan of all the vocoder stuff. I know he's not the best singer and that helps him out, so I'll give him a break. But I like the album, just not the format. But its definitely not the worst music I've ever heard. I'm a die hard Kanye fan, so I'm with him no matter what. And yes, it sucks, I'd like to meet that certain lady that broke his heart and have a few words, ahem.

I like 808's & Heartbreak is great, too. A little on the depressing side, and that's understandable. Anguish does seem to spur creativity. I write the best poems when I'm upset.
Well, I find many artists feel that they write these songs to help others and to let their own emotions free. I think their point is to inspire us and comfort us.
808 and heartbreaks is totally kanye's best album. it's not all "i'm the greatest rapper alive" and stuff, and the techno stuff is pretty awesome. i would give a basket of muffins to ed westwick or lady gaga. (:
