Around Christmastime, my friend, A, asked me to see
'Doubt' with her because she is a HUGE Meryl Streep fan. I love her, too, but my friend is pretty much obsessed.
Initially, I had no idea what the movie was about, but I went to see it anyway. Before we left, I saw the trailer and pretty much thought to myself, "Oh man, I'm not going to like this movie." The reason why I thought that was because I grew up in a Catholic family and went to Catholic school, so the last thing I want to do is watch a movie about a priest having sexual relations with a boy student.
While I was watching the move, I was glued to the screen and found myself liking it more than I expected to. It was a pretty good movie, and there weren't any graphic scenes showing pedophilia (thank God), so it wasn't awkward. It deals with other issues, like discrimination and religious questioning, so it kept the movie flowing.
Not only that, but the actors were awesome! Meryl Streep is always awesome so I can't really elaborate on her acting, but she definitely played a kick-ass strict and intimidating nun, with a touch of humor. Philip Seymour Hoffman also played an amazing priest, and I have to admit that I felt bad for the poor man throughout the movie -- constantly being accused of taking advantage of a student. Amy Adams was also pretty good, but she looked way to pale for my liking. As a matter of fact, all of them did, but that's for another time.
I don't want to give away the movie so go see it! Trust me, it's a serious movie but you'll find yourself hysterically laughing with the person next to you during certain parts of the movie. If you're a Catholic, you'll either love it because it's up your alley (the views, I mean) or you'll absolutely hate it because you'll be offended in some way. For me, though, the the last scene was the best. It makes you question the characters and certain things that occur in the movie, which I love, instead of those typical endings that slap the answer right in your face. Hint: Meryl Streep's last line really makes you think...

I LOVED Doubt! I wrote an entry on it too :)
Meryl Streep was fantastic! So were Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. As for them being pale, it seemed to just go with the theme of the movie. And that nuns probably don't go tanning or wear bronzer all that often.
The friend I saw it with hated it because you didn't officially KNOW what happened at the end. For the same reason, I enjoyed it.
