I loved Justin Timberlake's Futuresex / Lovesounds album. He really perfected his craft in that release.
I've been waiting for a follow-up for years, so imagine how surprised I was to learn that he is taking a break from singing to work on his acting career.
What acting career? Last I heard, Alpha Dog did not get an Oscar nod.
It confuses me when stars try to cross over into a new genre.
Cases in point: Britney Spears starring in the movie, "Crossroads," Justin doing "Alpha Dog," even Beyonce doing movies is a little underwhelming. She wasn't that great in Austin Powers 3, and the movies she's good in are usually the ones where she takes on a singing role. That's not really a crossover.
Eminem's 8 Mile was okay, but I didn't think it deserved that much acclaim. Even Madonna's stab at the silver screen with Evita was eh. And let's not forget Lindsay Lohan's album, or Paris Hilton's. Ouch!
What do you think of stars crossing over, either from singing to acting or the other way around? Do you think any star has made a successful crossover? (The only example that comes to mind is JLo, who acted before she started singing).

I think singers should stick to what they do best
same thing with actors/etc,The only actors who should sing are if they are on broadway.

I think Justin Timberlake is a great actor. He's done a lot more than just Alpha Dog, and he's even been in independent films. Have you ever seen him on SNL? That just shows how great an actor he is!

Yeah, I think people who act should stick to acting, lest they be spurned by their own lack of musical talent. Same goes for singers. And of course, people who can't act or sing at all shouldn't go into those areas of business...but some of them just don't listen.
Actors should stick to acting, singers to singing. UNLESS they CAN do both... well.

Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, Darjeeling Unlimited) has a fairly large indie following for his band Coconut Records.
I feel like more substantial actors who already have good careers and aren't retarded (like LiLo and Paris) and actually have musical talent can sing but aren't trying to make a huge profit out of it but like to play music and are pretty good.... for example, Kevin Costner's band 'Modern West'. But most singers can't act.

yeah.. I think crossing over for them is fine.. as long as they have the talent for it. but hey, if they want to experiment its just like us non-celebrities switching normal jobs. except when we mess up its not all over the news. I say they have every right to, good for them! :D
