  • Why Do Boys Like Mulan?

I was talking to my friends about Disney movies, and I was surprised to find that all my male friends liked Mulan best.

"It doesn't bother you that you like the girl who pretends to be a boy for the whole movie?"

    "That's why she's so cool!"

"So you want to date a boy?"

"No! I want to date a girl who's like a boy."

That makes sense? Here we are wearing uncomfortable shoes and being docile, and they just want us to be able to beat the crap out of soldiers with a weapon that doubles as a fan.

So I ask, which Disney princess is your favorite? Are we meant to admire Mulan most because she is least like a girl?

I think the boys liked her most because she was independent.

A lot of men like independent women. Mulan also has many admirable qualities.

I think the point of Mulan is courage and caring.....Would you risk getting killed to replace your sickly Dad? And I agree with @XxWiltedRosexX@xanga -

    @XxWiltedRosexX@xanga - I absolutely agree.

Mulan was just kick ass. She wasn't just scrubbing floors, cooking or other feminine chores or trying to get the prince. She was doing what she needed to do to save her father, an act that could very possibly lead to a death sentence  and in the process she saved her country from being taken over by hostile invaders. I also love that it was somewhat based on a true story (or at least a legend that is believe to be true).

I think if I had to pick Mulan is my favorite actually. Haha!

    Why do men like Mulan?

    The "be a man" anthem

    The pond-bathing scene

    The fights

    Watching the fireworks go off.

    The "be a man" anthem

And, what the heck, the guy gets the girl!

Mulan is my favorite too. She's independent, brave, and strong. But, of course, she has her elegant feminine qualities.

Mulan is awesome, but my favorite Disney movie is The Rescuers, and there is no princess in that one. I like Jasmine though.

I love that Be A Man song.  I used to sing it all the time to my little brother as a joke when I'm trying to get him to do something haha.

  • The_Prestigiator@xanga

because she's lovely and heroic! well, that's from a girl's perspective at least lol

  • methodElevated@xanga

Hayao Miyazaki is superior to Disney.  Give me Princess Mononoke over Mulan any day.

  • pretty_glam_photos@xanga

I love Mulan! She was so cool and honoring her family.
But my favorite is Belle cause she's a brunetter and is a bookworm like me!

  • x__witheredheart@xanga

Mulan is just like the best Disney movie ever. I'm not even sure why I like it so much. I love the songs and the animation. And I suppose it's got a lot to do with the message behind it as well. I guess I can relate because I've never really fit into the role my society expects women to play either.
Also, that whole "Be A Man" montage scene kicks so much assss.

  • imsum1special2@xanga

I love Mulan!  She is my fave "princess."  I could watch that movie all day.  I often repeat the "Be a Man" scene; it's so great.  and whenever I mention the movie around guys, they ALL know and like it.  I think it's because of the kick-butt fight scenes.

I want to meet your friends. WHERE ARE THESE SORT OF GUYS IN MY LIFE?? Seriously! Lol.

I actually never saw Mulan, I was a little old for Disney cartoon movies when that came out... My favorite is still Beauty & The Beast for the princess angle, because Belle is a lot like me. And it's the closest Disney movie to my romantic moments, if not only because it was one of the first Disney princess movies I actually saw.

    @Roadlesstaken@xanga - LOL. That's hilarious..

  • Roadlesstaken@xanga

@AllMyNamesAreTaken@xanga - It works!  He ends up doing w/e I asked him to do so that I would stop mwahahaha.

  • SeriouslyCheesed@xanga

lol, Mulan's my favorite Disney princess too. I think guys like her because she had a bigger priority than just getting the guy: her family (oh and saving China). Throughout the movie she just tried to prove herself to other people that she wasn't "just a girl". She and the guy she crushed on barely talked to each other, and he thought she was a guy for most of the film!!! Haha. I think Mulan's very grounded and not all up in the air about love. I don't even think Mulan had a love song? O_o

  • Pcgecko85@xanga

Look at how she wields her sword.  She is a bad ass hottie in my book.

  • misotired@xanga

Anyone that has a dragon as a sidekick kicks major butt. but in the attraction sense, I agree, on the arguement that girls that are pretty much down to earth, girls that don't pay attention to how their makeup is all the time, the hoodie, jeans wearing with a cap on type girls attracts me more than the always pretty model like perfectionist who only talks to people of her stature.

    Its cool like that.

  • Dylan_Disast3r@xanga

I like it cuz it reminds me of Joan of Arc who I think was the greatest female figure in the history of the world

  • KzNetty@xanga

Maybe it's 'cause they'd want someone to be comfortable with--with their male personality. Someone to get along with; without the girl getting disgusted or whatever. Or maybe they don't like hearing girls whine about their make-up, health, etc.

    Who knows O_O

mulan is such a good movie! probably because i like the culture and all that but mulan is badass and independent. the songs were great the story was great and it was just a fucking awesome movie!

I cannot speak for all men, but Mulan (the character) is awesome for showing more courage and taking greater risk than females in other Disney movies.

As for her being like a guy, a good number of guys out there really like girls who, socially, are "one of the guys." I personally tend to dislike girly girls.

Just an aside, I find calling her a "princess" rather interesting. She was not a princess in the literal sense (Ariel, Jasmine, Cinderella, etc were all actual princesses, daughters of a monarch (one exception was Belle, though I seem to recall Beast was a prince, hence there is still royalty in the mix), and shes not super girly like as the figurative term would imply.

Lastly, of all the non-Pixar animated films by Disney, Robin Hood was my favorite.

  • ddeborah31@xanga

hehe i liked shang but i also like eric & aladdin.
