Prince Eric Was a Wuss!

Don't get me wrong. The Little Mermaid is probably my sixth or seventh favorite Disney movie. Love Ariel, love Ursula, love Flounder and Sebastian, love the music. And while Prince Eric was one of the hottest Disney men, he sure wasn't the most noble, or the most valiant or even the most horny.
Why?
Imagine you're on a boat with a gorgeous, albeit silent, redhead. The mood is right; she is silently giving you consent to have your way with her. All the water animals are cheering you on. You should kiss her, right? Prince Eric, in a move that will have some dire consequences later, does not kiss the girl. Okay, sure, they were attacked by Ursula's henchmen, but he had all day!
Not only that, he then goes on to get engaged to some floozy named Vanessa (who is actually Ursula) who he thinks saved his life earlier. Talk about a fickle heart! And though he does help out some in the climax, it could have all been avoided if he had just kissed Ariel.
I think the most noble prince in the Disney canon is Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty who battles Maleficent almost single-handedly in order save Aurora and her family. Also, Prince Charming from Snow White, Aladdin (who technically isn't a prince) and Simba are pretty noble characters.
Who is your favorite Disney prince? Do you think Eric is a wuss?

Aladdin. Maybe because he wasn't exactly the prince in the way that these other guys are. He wasn't rich and what not, but he was a good man, and to me that kinda makes him a prince.
Plus he had awesome acrobatic and combat skills.. and a sense of humor.
I don't think I'd rank any prince as my favorite. Aaladin was a liar. Prince Edward (Enchanted) was slow. Can't really rattle off any more other than that.
Wait, maybe the Beast. He was a prince I think. And he learned from his mistakes. Speaking of Beauty and the Beast....I want that one on dvd now.
Prince Eric was an inch away from kissing her before they got disturbed! These things take timeeeee. :) Also, he was under a spell from Vanessa/Ursula. So there you go. It's all Ursula's fault. And Ariel couldn't speak, so how was he to know what's going on?
I like Beast from Beauty and the... :)
john smith (yes he counts as a prince) and eric was just hot.
Screw the princes, I want myself a military man. I have a slight cartoon crush on Shang from Mulan.
Eric is cool because he looks like Dave Seville from The Chipmunks.
My personal favorite is the Prince Charming from Snow White. There's really no reason other than I'm a sucker for that movie.
Also, I don't think Prince Eric is a wuss, the reason he plans to marry "Vanessa" is because he's under a spell. (I don't know if you noticed the dazed look that's always on his face until Vanessa's necklace is broken.)
As for the not kissing her scene, he'd known the girl what...a day? He's really just trying to be a gentleman, which in my opinion, he is.
=)
Aw, I love Eric! He was just nervous. He wanted everything to be perfect!
i hate all the dizny princes not one of them iz gay not one sumthin iz WRONG with the math heer in reel lyfe therzza lotta gay princiz dizny princiz ar loozerz
i wanna reel gay dizny prince
Eric IS a wuss.
I don't think Eric is a wuss (though, my opinion may be biased as TLM is my favorite Disney movie ever).
Eric was simply taking his time.
The movie takes place in, what, three, four days total?
Let him take his time in kissing her.
He's being a gentleman.
Ariel couldn't clue him in. She has no voice.
And as for Vanessa/Ursula, that skank put a spell on him so he'd marry her in order for Ariel to have no chance of sealing the deal. (Remember. Ursula wanted Ariel in order to get closer to Triton's power.)
Anyway.
I don't think Eric is a wuss. I mean. Really. Since when did waiting a few days before kissing someone means they're a wuss?
Eric wasn't a wuss, though he isn't my favorite, I'm a Prince Philip fan! XD
I love Prince Philip! I'd like to have a guy who'd fight for me like that =)
come to think of it, he was kind of a pansy wasn't he??? :)
prince philip was so sweet : ) he always made me smile
I totally married Prince Philip! My husband is named Philip...lol. :) They have a lot of similar qualities.
I don't think you can consider Prince Eric a wuss. He totally steered the boat right into a massive sea witch at the end of the movie DURING a huge storm to save Ariel. He was under a spell due to Vanessa/Ursula AND...he was a gentleman. The fact that he DIDN'T take advantage of Ariel says he's not a wuss.
I love Beast. He starts out a selfish jerk, but he changes into a better person because of his love for Belle, and learns to be truly selfless... Beauty & the Beast is definitely my favorite Disney movie; it's what real love should be- it's not just looks that matter, but what's inside that counts; helping to make someone the best possible version of themselves, looking further than skin-deep, and caring for someone else more than yourself... mmm.
However, John Smith is damn fine, if he counts as a "prince".
All Vanessas are floozys (that I've met).. so he was just retarded. But hey can you imagine if he had kissed her! There would have been no action in the movie. No suspense! No sexual tension!
My favorite really isn't a prince but he seems pretty romantic and noble to me and its mostly based on a true story. Dimitri from Anastacia. Now he was a stud. Thats my favorite but isn't the most common. Eric was a wuss. I'll admit that.
I didn't have a favorite prince, but wasn't Eric put under Ursula's spell? Can't blame the fella!
Excuse a man for trying to be gentlemanly. Eric was always my favorite.
A wuss? Have his way with her? Were you seeking some x-rated version where Eric pops a girls cherry because after all she's mute and making googley eyes at him, so if he took advantage she's not be able to tell on him anyway right?!
The fact that he doesn't indeed, take advantage of the situation probably makes him more of a model prince than a wuss type. Plus, Ursula/Vanessa put him under a spell to fall in love with her, using Ariel's voice, which is what he'd fallen in love with in the first place. That his love is misplaced from Ariel to Vanessa isn't his fault, nor can we accuse him of being shallow because of it.
Considering he risked his life to eventually fight a super huge, evil sea witch who happened to be in control of the natural powers of the ocean, for the love of his life, even though that love of his life was a mermaid and quite possibly beyond his reach (that whole, 'my wife has a fish tail' can get in the way of building a deep relationship) I think it's fair to say, Eric wasn't a 'wuss' in any form.
The Beast is my favourite because his journey actually has an interesting point to make. He doesn't sweep the woman off her feet, his and Belle's love is more of a gradual process of getting to know you, which in itself represents a more realistic relationship. Plus he's rather funny, although I was always let down a little in the end after his transformation back into a Prince, I always thought he'd be a bit more handsome.
@XloversXtragedyX@xanga - dmitri was hot, but the only real thing from that cartoon was the name anastasia ...
and alladin was hot too... I never really liked the Little Mermaid....
he's not a wuss! he was loyal to the girl he thought rescued him! since ariel had no voice and he distinctly remembered being sang to, he was very unsure of what to do even though he was falling for her... he thought he wanted to be with someone else, and when ursula came along with that voice and HYPNOTIZED HIM, well, there was no chance he could turn that down. so i'd say eric is just cautious and loyal. he's one of my favorite princes.
hercules is also one of my favorites. he's just so funny!
I liked Shang from Mulan and Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty. I love me some fightin' men! Also... Beast was AWESOME.
But he was a wuss... Eric couldn't even KISS his woman (though the Vanessa thing was magic, remember? He just remembered the woman who saved him's voice, not what she looked like) The guy from Enchanted was pretty durrrr.
John Smith just isn't my type. He's a little TOO cocky. Also, blonde guys arent my thing xD
