My Friend Ditched Me for American Idol

As much of a TV addict that I am, I haven't actually ever ditched someone for television. With the ease of watching TV online or downloading it, there's never an urgency to watch a program. Actually, living with five other people, most of my TV-watching is done online.
And I thought that most people did this.
Not my friend Parker, who ditched me last week so she could watch American Idol. We were hanging out, really craving some Chinese food when she looked at her watch, realized it was 6:40 and told me she has to go so she can watch American Idol. It takes her an hour to go from Manhattan to Queens so she had to go right then.
Now I am not an AI fan so I was really confused as to why it was so necessary to watch it when it was still Top 36? She told me it just was and left. I was left starving and alone and ended up just getting a slice of pizza from a pizzeria I always go to. I was depressed.
Later, she told me the episode was worth bailing on me for. I wanted to cry.
Have you ditched someone, or been ditched by someone, for a television show?

nope....That is stupid. Friends should be more important then TV
Why didn't she just dvr or tivo it?
Anyway, I've never been ditched for a tv show but I was ditched for xbox.
Well I am an AI fan so I can understand why she did that, although the way she did it was rude. If it's that important to her she should have let you know well in advance that she would have to leave early, rather than ruin your plans like that. Thankfully, most of my friends know that not only am I an AI fan, but also a Law and Order SVU fan (which is way better than AI, so ya know!) so they know not to ask me to do anything when those two shows are on...unless they want to watch with me!
no never pepul rate more than ratingz
Yes. I plan outings around TV shows. Most of my friends watch a lot of the same shows so sometimes it doesn't matter and we just watch them together. But if I'm not working, and it's 'show time' for whatever show I watch on a particular day, good luck getting me to do anything else.
I guess I would have maybe just asked to watch it on your tv maybe.Â
The show shouldn't be that important to her. If you still want to be her friend after this, you could offer to watch American Idol with her, so you don't feel so alone.
No, that is just freaking stupid!!
No , i've never been. And I'd probably never ditch someone for a tv show esp since i can catch it online. I dont see whats the difference. You should tell your friend that. AI will end in a few months time and it'll start again next yr and on and on. But once she damages the friendship it wont be easy to get back again. What she did was rly stupid.
She couldve watched it with you , like the others said.
Yup, I ditched my usual monday night hang out at the pub quiz just so I could stay in a watch Sanctuary when it aired here in the UK. I'd log onto MSN messenger so as to 'co-watch' with Lady Lea, and we'd pretty much insta squee about the episode. It was usually followed with a mad dash for SG1 DVD's and we'd watch a few episodes of that as well.
i like television as much as the next person, but i would never pass up actual, human interaction solely a chance to zone out on the tube. but that's just me. and no, not to my knowledge, have i ever been ditched by someone for television. i don't make it a habit to make friends with people that have such skewed priorities.
haha, this gives me another reason to dislike AI, though.
Yep, I've been doing it week after week because of LOST. I haven't seen my best friend or any of my friends for that matter, for over a week and i could see them tonight but instead I'm gonna watch LOST. I can wait til Sunday to see them.
what your friend did was not cool. I almost got ditch for Grey's Anatomy once. Me and my other friends stopped her and while we were on our way to eat, she burst in to tears...
