Teen Stars Who Might Make It
There seems to be a lot of Disney-hating going on in the pop culture world. It's become trendy to call Vanessa Hudgens a slut or to accuse Disney of denying Zac Efron his homo-ness. And while I sometimes do join in on hating, I'm not going to discredit the few teen stars (Disney or otherwise) who are actually talented and might make something of themselves in the future. In my opinion, these teen stars are here to stay:
Demi LovatoI first encountered this neo-rocker chick while seeing her "La La Land" video while watching Wizards of Waverly Place (the only Disney show I watch). After becoming obsessed with that song, I downloaded the other 10 songs from her debut album Don't Forget. And it's fantastic! She doesn't try to be "dark" or "deep." She is just rocking out to some awesome teen pop music. The best thing is that she co-wrote most of the songs and the jewel of the album is the song she wrote all by herself, "Trainwreck." I think Ms. Lovato has a chance of leaving her mark on the music scene. And I think she's gorgeous.
Ashley TisdaleIn the HSM series, Ashley plays the ambitious Sharpay and she just wins points for being the only not-onbnoxiously cheerful-girl. Sharpay is a go-getter and I can appreciate that. Ashley herself has a reak knack for comedy with a voice to match. I definitely hope that she gets an even bigger break than the HSM franchise.
Lucas Grabeel Of the males in HSM, Lucas Grabeel was definitely the most talented. He was a major triple threat: stellar dancer, great singer, good actor. And he was in Milk for which he gets 10 extra points. And you know he had the greatest fashion in HSM and by that I mean he took a lot of chances--and pulled them off.
Dakota Fanning She used to be one of the best child actors and now she is one promising teenaged actress. She rocked the house in The Secret Life of Bees with a sensitive, mature and nuanced performance. And she was in that weird sci-fi thriller Push but I can appreciate the desire to try something new and break out of the childish image she has. And she was absolutely fabulous in Coraline.
Who are some teen stars with actual talent?

I just saw Milk this weekend! Fantastic movie!
I think Dakota Fanning is the only one in this post who will make it.
Dakota Fanning, for sure... the others? Not so much...
Dakota was smart by not starting off with Disney, cause the other stars are still stuck with the Disney-image while she's making big bucks with all her movies.
I agree. Only Dakota will make it.
No Disney star today is going anywhere. The Mickey Mouse Club ain't digging too far into the talent pool these days.
I agree with everyone except for Ashley Tisdale. I don't think she's that great of a singer. She is a good actress, though.
Lucas Grabeel is definitely the most talented in HSM, male or female I think. Dakota Fanning is great, and Demi Lovato can actually sing! I really like her.
I honestly can't think of any teen stars with actual talent. But I agree that Dakota Fanning definitely has a brighter future than any of the Disney stars.
I would just like to point out that Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel are not teens.
Yup, thumbs up for Dakota!
awww dakota fanning is so cute~ practically watched her grow up. hope hollywood (or life) doesnt screw them up.
Of the ones you mentioned, I can see Dakota Fanning succeeding the most. I wouldn't be surprise to see her win an Oscar in the future.
@droftreeology@xanga - i totes agree
Definitely a fan of Dakota Fanning. Not big on the others.
I like Demi, and Ashley, not so much the others. I've seen enough of Ashley to know that she'll probably keep up her good work. As for Demi, if acting doesn't work out for her, music will for sure.
Definitely Dakota.
Dakota Fanning is my favorite. I first saw her in Steven Spielberg's Taken miniseries on Scifi. Pretty awesome.
Disney is kind of churning out clones these days.
I think Dakota Fanning is a good actress. She'll probably make it.
I really hope Lucas Grabeel gets more, he's very talented! I remember watching him in Halloween Town (was that what it was called?) Disney can be some sort of money pop-star pumping machine, it's kind of scary.
The above are all good, but my favorite is Miley Cyrus. Don't know why, I like her voice.
Ugh, I hate Demi Lovato.
Taylor Swift and yes, Demi Lovato. I love them.
I'm actually thinking closer along the lines of Dakota and Demi. Maybe Selena Gomez from Wizards of Waverly Place.
I like Demi Lovato. She rocks!
Dakota just for Coraline
I absolutely adore Demi Lovato! She's cute, talented, and has a very unique style. Whenever I see her on TV, she looks just great. And I thought her first album was great too, especially the songs "La La Land" and "On the Line" featuring The Jonas Brothers.
Ashley Tisdale, not so much. I mean, am I the only one who thinks she cannot sing? Vanessa Hudgens sings ten times better than her.
Your post was RIGHT ON! I think other credible stars are Taylor Swift and, I think, Selena Gomez could go far if she really sticks with her goal of being taken seriously as an actress "for many years" after Disney.
I especially agree with Demi Lovato being on here. I think she's adorable. She's got an amazing voice and she's a good actress, but more importantly, she has a very down-to-earth relatable likeable personality. I think she's great.
And, although my guilty pleasure is the Jonas Brothers, I don't see them making it past 2009. They've really gotta work at it. And Miley Cyrus is a definite no. She'll last awhile but she'll burn out by the time she's 20, except for all the scandals she'll get herself into. I honestly feel bad for her and how much being in the spotlight has affected her.
