I'll Make a Woman Out of You?
Ever notice that sometimes Disney characters like to try out the clothing of the opposite gender? It happened quite a few times, most notably in Mulan which is centered around cross-dressing. Here are some more examples:
Lion King - Timon during the distraction scene, pretending to be a hula girl
Mulan - Mulan as soldier but also the scene at the end where the 3 soldiers dress as concubines
Jungle Book - Baloo dresses up as hot orangutan chica to distract King Louis and rescue Mowgli
Hunchback of Notre Dame - Esmeralda pretends to be old beggar man, with the help of Djali's real beard
Aladdin - brief instance where Aladdin gets tangled up in women's lingerie, also Genie in various antics throughout the three movies
Pirates of the Caribbean - Elizabeth as a man
Lilo and Stitch - the skinny one eyed alien cross dresses in the first movie, in the second movie it's become a full-blown fetish
What are some more examples of cross-dressing, Disney-style? Do you think Disney is trying to send out a subliminal message or is it just a coincidence?

I think it's just Disney's way of bending gender roles on the down low while reenforcing the traditional roles. It adds a bit of balance.
I think most of the time they're just trying to be funny with it.
the king lemur in Madagascar II
:D
Maybe Disney LOVES cross dressing? hehe
haha. good observations.
and about like the lion king with the word "sex" or something in the sky? and the little mermaid... the priest with the boner? haha... but yeah I do kind of think disney has some subliminal messages... but nonetheless it is pretty interesting.
just coincident? i never really noticed..
@jebdereb14@xanga - that was dreamworks, not disney =P
@kristentsuii@xanga - Nothing is coincidence with Disney. The movies are all thought out to the second so that they will a) sell and b) socialize our children.
I still love the movies though.
Nothing makes little kids giggle more than a guy in girls clothes. I've seen it in action many times.
There isn't much funny about the cross-dressing girls though, besides Mulan in the beginning. Mostly they are doing it as a necessity. I think people over think this stuff.I think that they usually add that in there to make the movie funnier, Nothing brings the chuckles like a guy in a skirt.
@imakeyoufree@xanga - Took the words right out of my..mouth? :P I agree with this.
i think they are trying to make people think that it's ok to crossdress for good reasons. heh heh.
hahah...the one-eyed alien is the prettiest of them all. sHe should go on a blind-date with the green one eyed alien, mike, from monster's inc. they would make a cute couple lol!
