• An Open Letter to Jesse Camp

  I got word that the reason your album didn't sell is because people just want to see you as a celebrity. I own the record, and you sound like more than just the type of person who would wake a city. The album was a word for anyone who has been looked down upon as kids, and are just the type that didn't care. Still, MTV never was a great medium for baring out your true place, man. But it's wonderful that you tried at it.

  Anyway, I know you are probably somewhere either settling down with your music, but speaking of MTV, we have to say: They need you back desperately.

  When you were on TV, you played old hair metal, regular metal, rock music, something with life, and right now, MTV desperately needs that jolt back.  I don't care what the kids say. If a kid goes so far as to make fun of Beth Ditto rather than just listen to her music, it's clear they don't know spit about music OR they don't know what they really want out of music. That's why some people are going underground or back to the time you once took us for better music.

  I heard you did make an appearance to the final showing of Total Request Live. You should have asked to bring it all back, because now, it's not about what the kids want. But what the adults think the kids want. It's obvious what I am saying. I don't watch MTV or MTV2 to this day anymore, but for those who currently do, they need you back, man. It doesn't matter what they thought you did, or whether they believe you were homeless or not. It didn't even matter that the album didn't sell, and the kids just wanted to be around an MTV VJ for a few minutes.

  What matters is that our youth is more corrupted than ever, and you were a centerpiece of individuality on that show. And what we need to rid us of the assumption that all girls are cute and unattainable, and the men are clean, sensitive and everything they are not all the time is the dirty swagger you brought to MTV.

  Bottom line: They need you back. No question.
