  • Drag Me to the Apple Store

Good actors in good roles make you forget you're watching actors in roles. When I watch "House," I honestly cease to think Hugh Laurie is the real man behind the stethoscope.

Oh, Gregory House, you saucy so-and-so, you!

Far more often, though, this does not happen. I was watching a trailer for Sam Raimi's forthcoming horror flick Drag Me To Hell, thinking it looked cool, even though these things rarely live up to the promotions. And then Justin Long popped up like he does at the top.

Yeah, you know the Mac from the PC vs. Mac commercials? That's him. And that's exactly what I would think if I were to watch the entire movie. "Oh, no...Mac Guy is getting chased by demons! Good thing he doesn't have Vista!" In other words, for me, there would be no hope for the illusion of cinema.

Do you find it hard to appreciate characters when the actors/actresses playing them are so familiar?
