The Price is Right: Battle of the Price Games

If you've ever stayed home sick from school, you've watched the best game show ever: The Price of Right. Now hosted by Drew Carey, Bob Barker charmed us for decades of price-bidding, wheel-spinning and showcase showdowns. The games on this show were usually carefully designed, extremely tacky and full of cheesy music, and always epic. Here are some of my favorites:

Cliff Hangers

The more off you were in your guessing on prices of hemorrhoid cream, the further this little guy yodeled his way up the mountain. Make too many errors, and uh oh! The mountain climber took a Swiss tumble off the top. But face it, the cheesy carnage was often the best part of this game.

Dice Game

I don't remember the exact rules of this one. It had something do with guessing a price by guessing each digit to be higher or lower than what you had rolled. But the best part were the gigantic foam dice which rocked everyone's world.

Hole in One

This game ruled for so many reasons. First, you got to put the standard drugstore items in price order, which means the more correct you were, the closer you could get to the hole. When people would get all the way up there, you were just buzzing with excitement because you KNEW that ball was going in there. Next, Bob would do his practice putt while the contestant held his skinny microphone. He would invariably miss. Sometimes, one of Barker's ~~Bimboes~~ Beauties would also get to putt. Then, if the contestant missed the putt, there was that glorious moment when Bob, the Hero of the Day, would stride over to the cheesy game display and hit the button to reveal that it was Hole in One...or Two! And everyone would scream like they had no idea the second chance was coming. Seriously, Hole in One rocked. I would kill for the chance to play mini-golf for a dinette set.

Punch-a-Bunch

This one seems kind of obscure, until you see that board, and you remember how desperately you wanted to punch one of those dollar-signs in and take out your little slip of paper. Just think of the craftmanship that had to go into putting that tacky board together! Punch the right ones and you could end up with A! NEW! CAR!

If you doubt the sheer awesomeness of this game; if you have never longed to climb the Plinko staircase with confident assurance; if you have never scoffed at the contestant's chip-positioning strategy and claimed you could do much better; then you would never have what it takes to spin the wheel, let alone get through a Showcase Showdown. Enjoy that parting-gift bag of Werther's Originals.

Don't Stop Believin' In GLEE!

Glee.

1. Jubilant delight; joy.

2. Music A part song scored for three or more usually male and unaccompanied voices that was popular in the 18th century.

3.A new musical comedy television series on Fox.

So what's the verdict? Is Glee going to be your standard summer filler or something more special?

Personally, I think it's too early to tell. I found the show lackluster at the beginning. It reminded me of those really bad made-for-tv MTV movies (minus 2+Gether) with the sort of obvious jokes and stereotypes. However, it definitely picked up at the end. Some of the characters like Terri, Tina, and Puck seem a bit too vapid. The writers should work on expanding Tina's persona at least which I think they will since she's part of the newly established Glee club. Puck is your average jock bully and I'm not buying his "I'll punch your goat face in paawnk" sorta threats. Also, the female gym teacher is a bit too much and Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele) is just way too annoying. Still, I feel as though the cast is getting settled on set and hopefully everything will ultimately work out well.

However, I love Cory Monteith, who, as the bad boy jock, abandons his town's football expectations to follow his passion for singing and performance. He seems like he has a lot of heart and I adore his charming demeanor.. Jayma Mays (Charley from Ugly Betty) assumes the role of Emma and seems to have potential chemistry with Matthew Morrison who plays Will, the swell choral teacher. Moreover, Kevin McHale as witty quadriplegic Arty has tremendous cutie pie appeal. I'm liking some of the characters at least!

The gorgeous and marvelous performance cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" pretty much made up for the dull beginning and now I'm craving more! One thing's for sure --these high schoolers can sing and I hope that their Glee club grows as the show grows! I seriously want to see where this series is heading!

My freshman year in college I was introduced to Dane Cook. Since then, I've never seen comedy the same way again. The man is HILARIOUS! He acts out every single one of his jokes in the greatest detail and never stands still. It's great! He gets really into what he says and does.

I've also seen him live - needless to say, I was in tears from laughter. My favorite joke is the one about the Kool-Aid man - check it out.

He's also been in a few movies - his latest one was my Best Friend's Girl, which I also enjoyed, although, primarily, I like and prefer him as a comedian. I'm still adjusting his whole acting career.

What is your take on Dane Cook? Do you prefer him as an actor, comedian, both, or neither?

Friday Challenge: Two Very Different High Schools

In pop culture, high school can be portrayed as being hell on earth, drama central or completely wonderful and musically filled. You know where I'm going with that last one.
